Word & Bread

I have just finished my breakfast in a fastfood outlet. Situated overlooking the outside area, there is this beggar woman with a child. Of course, a lot of passersby just walk along, ignoring and maybe pretend that such scene does not exist. I have already been mulling over the possibility of buying some food for her. But what really made me stand up and finally decide was when I see bible-carrying preachers read to this beggar. What ! I was about to tell them that they should have fed them first before ever reading anything about the Word. It just happened that when I went out they were no longer there, so I just left the sandwich in the open palm of that woman. Remembering quite well Skinner's operant conditioning wherein I could have reinforced the woman's listening over that bible read to her. Or maybe Pavlov's classical conditioning wherein she must have associated bible reading or (maybe God) with food. Whatever it is, may God bless her and her child.
